Platform Health Check

The goal of this health check is to get a sense of general health of your ARTESCA system.

To perform a platform health check, follow this workflow:

  1. Checking Alerts

  2. Monitoring the S3 Service Dashboard

  3. Monitoring the Platform Menu

  4. Monitoring Nodes

  5. Monitoring Volumes

Checking Alerts

In the ARTESCA UI, open the Alerts menu. A healthy system does not have any Critical Alerts or Warnings. If you only see the watchdog notification, your system is in a good state.

For more information on alerts, refer to Alert Management.

Monitoring the S3 Service Dashboard

To access the S3 Service Dashboard, refer to S3 Service Monitoring.

  1. Check the Success rate graphic.

If the percentage is above 95%, the system is healthy. Below 95% indicates that there are issues with the system that need to be investigated.

  2. Check the Aggregated status over time.

It provides insight on requests that were answered successfully, and the ones that failed.

  3. Check the Http status codes over time.

It qualifies requests handled by the system.

    • 2XX indicates that the request was successful.

    • 4XX indicates that the request was not successful due to application errors.

    • 5XX indicates that the request was not successful due to system errors. These errors will generate retries from the application. Expect none, or very few 5XX.

Monitoring the Platform Menu

To monitor the Platform menu gives you a high-level overview of the system’s performance.

To access this Platform menu, in the ARTESCA UI, click the Platform menu.

The Dashboard page displays general data to monitor. On the top right side, select Last 7 days and monitor the following:

  • Global health is green.

  • Nodes and Volumes are green.

  • Core, Observability, and Access are green. If not, contact the Scality Support.

  • WorkloadPlane has a consistent traffic and does not saturate the 2 x 10 Gbps LACP.

  • System Load must not be continuously over 50. It indicates that the platform is overloaded.

  • Memory must always be below 90%.

Note

All icons are linked to alerts. A yellow or red icon is linked to an active alert.

Monitoring Nodes

In the ARTESCA UI, open the Platform menu and select the Nodes tab. Click the Node you want to monitor.

  1. Check this tab regularly to ensure that all nodes are healthy and no alerts are raised.

  2. Using the Partitions tab, look for any partition with high usage and plan for space management.

Monitoring Volumes

In the ARTESCA UI, open the Platform menu and select the Volumes tab. Click the Volume you want to monitor.

Check this tab regularly to ensure that all volumes are healthy and no alerts are raised.

Note

If the usage is Undefined, it means that the volume is not used.
