Data Disk Status and Troubleshooting¶
Data disks on ARTESCA can be monitored and managed through the Storage Services menu in the UI. Click the node to list all mounted data disks. When monitoring a data disk, you can encounter various disk statuses that indicate the health and performance of the disk.
Healthy Status¶
The disk is functioning properly and has normal operational state. No errors or issues are detected. It is ready for use or currently in use by the system.
New Status¶
The disk has been successfully recognized by the system after a physical replacement or addition. It is not yet mounted or in use, but it is ready to be configured. To mount a new disk, follow Mounting the New Disk.
For a disk to be assigned the New status, it must follow these conditions:
Physically installed on the server.
Detected and configured by the RAID controller.
Has a capacity within 20% margin of the average size of the running data disks in the node.
Important
If a new disk does not meet one of these conditions, it will not be detected or displayed in the UI.
Faulty Status¶
The disk has encountered one or more critical errors that have been detected, making it unreliable or unusable. The disk needs to be replaced following Replace a Data Disk.
This status can be triggered by several scenarios:
I/O errors: The disk has experienced input/output errors, suggesting problems with data read/write operations.
Physical removal: The disk has been physically uninstalled or disconnected from the server.
- Alert triggered: One of the following alerts has been triggered:
DataVolumeDisabled: The data volume on the disk has been disabled. It is likely due to corruption or severe errors.DataVolumeFull: The data volume on the disk has reached its full capacity, preventing further data storage.
Degraded Status¶
A disk is marked with a Degraded status when the DataVolumeFillingUp alert is triggered.
This alert indicates that the disk has reached 80% of its total storage capacity.
While the disk remains operational, a warning threshold for its data volume has been met.
Unknown Status¶
It is a catch-all status for any situation that does not correspond to the other statuses. The system cannot determine the disk’s health or operational state, indicating an indeterminate or unclassified issue.
Contact Scality Support as further investigations are required to identify the cause of this status.
