Managing the Veeam Virtual Machine¶
This section provides instructions on how to manage the Veeam virtual machine (VM).
Get the Veeam VM Name¶
Make sure to save the name of the Veeam VM, as you will need it to start, stop, or connect to the Veeam VM.
Run the following command to get the name of the Veeam VM.
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$
VEEAM_VM_NAME=$(sudo kubectl --kubeconfig=/etc/kubernetes/admin.conf get vm -n veeam -o custom-columns=NAME:.metadata.name --no-headers)
In the context of an ARTESCA+ Veeam multi-node HA deployment, you run more than
one Veeam VM. There is no naming convention, so you must list the VMs and set the
VEEAM_VM_NAME variable to the target VM name when starting, stopping, or
connecting to a Veeam VM.
List the Veeam VMs.
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$sudo kubectl --kubeconfig=/etc/kubernetes/admin.conf get vm -n veeam -o custom-columns=NAME:.metadata.name --no-headers
Expected Output¶veeam-01 veeam-02
Set the
VEEAM_VM_NAMEvariable to the target VM name.[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$VEEAM_VM_NAME=<target-vm-name>
Start the Veeam VM¶
Run the following command to start the Veeam VM.
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$
sudo virtctl --kubeconfig=/etc/kubernetes/admin.conf start -n veeam "$VEEAM_VM_NAME"
Connect to the Veeam VM using a VNC Client¶
At any time, you can connect to the Veaam Virtual Machine, using a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) client.
In the context of Veeam Backup & Replication version 12, this offers an alternative to the Remote Desktop Client.
In the context of Veeam Software Appliance version 13, this offers an access to the Veeam Software Appliance Terminal UI.
To connect to the Veeam Virtual Machine using a VNC client, follow these steps:
Start the VNC server from the ARTESCA host.
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$sudo virtctl --kubeconfig /etc/kubernetes/admin.conf vnc -n veeam "$VEEAM_VM_NAME" --proxy-only --address 0.0.0.0 --port 48459
Use a VNC client to connect to the Virtual Machine using the ARTESCA host IP.
Choose the VNC client of your choice. For example, you can use the RealVNC Viewer client.
Stop the Veeam VM¶
Run the following command to stop the Veeam VM.
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$
sudo virtctl --kubeconfig=/etc/kubernetes/admin.conf stop -n veeam "$VEEAM_VM_NAME"
