Network Charts in Platform Dashboard Are Not Reporting Values¶
Problem Description¶
On the UI, the network charts in the Platform dashboard are not reporting any values.
Also, in the Nodes tab, in the Metrics side-panel tab, the network charts are not reporting any values either.
Root Cause¶
The network charts query Prometheus using data derived from the Salt grains
metalk8s and ip_interfaces. When these grains are out of date, the charts
look for values that do not exist and therefore report nothing.
Problem Resolution¶
Export the MetalK8s version you are using as an environment variable:
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$export MK8SVERSION=`sudo kubectl \ --kubeconfig=/etc/kubernetes/admin.conf \ get cm -n kube-system artesca-version \ -o jsonpath="{.data.metalk8s}"`
Refresh the Salt grains so the charts rely on up-to-date network information:
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$sudo kubectl exec -n kube-system -c salt-master \ --kubeconfig /etc/kubernetes/admin.conf \ $(sudo kubectl --kubeconfig /etc/kubernetes/admin.conf \ get pods -n kube-system -l app=salt-master -o name) \ -- salt '*' saltutil.refresh_grains
Manually synchronize the charts to make them watch the right values.
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$sudo kubectl exec -n kube-system -c salt-master \ --kubeconfig /etc/kubernetes/admin.conf \ $(sudo kubectl --kubeconfig /etc/kubernetes/admin.conf \ get pods -n kube-system -l app=salt-master -o name) \ -- salt '*' saltutil.sync_all refresh=True saltenv=metalk8s-$MK8SVERSION
