Install the Windows Virtual Machine

You can deploy the ARTESCA+ Veeam Unified Software Appliance on on Windows Server 2022 or Windows Server 2025.

Download the Windows Server Evaluation ISO

From the official Microsoft website, download the Windows Server 2022 or Windows Server 2025 ISO file in the /home/artesca-os/ directory.

Scality recommends using the US ISO version. The language of the ISO can be changed later on.

Note

Windows VM automatic installation is for now only available with Windows Server Evaluation ISO. Once Windows Server Evaluation is installed, you can upgrade to a full version of Windows Server.

Create the Windows Virtual Machine

The following command creates the Windows Virtual Machine, and deploys the following configurations:

  • Activates the Remote Desktop Client.

  • Installs the Virtio Network driver.

  • Creates default admin credentials (VeeamAdministrator).

  • Updates the hosts file to resolve the s3.artesca-plus.local endpoint.

  • Installs the ARTESCA Root CA.

  • Formats the Veeam Partition (280 GB).

[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$
sudo ./artesca-installer vm create --vm-ip <vm ip> --os-iso <windows iso> veeam windows --windows-version 2k22
[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$
sudo ./artesca-installer vm create --vm-ip <vm ip> --os-iso <windows iso> veeam windows --windows-version 2k25

Tip

  • Replace <windows iso> with the path to the Windows Server ISO file previously downloaded.

  • Replace <vm ip> with the IP address you want to allocate to the Windows Virtual Machine. As a reminder, this IP address must be in the Data Network.

  • The ISO file must support the en-US locale as it’s the locale the installer uses.

Once the command is executed, the Windows Virtual Machine credentials display. Make sure to save them, as you will need them to connect to the Virtual Machine later on.

Credentials Example
State 'artesca.vm.veeam' succeeded
VM is deployed, you can connect to it using RDP Client with login
VeeamAdministrator and password: cf3206e50dcd4501bc36dcfbf902bd39

Delete the Installation Artifacts

This step allows you to remove the Windows Server ISO file from the host, as it is no longer needed after the installation.

[artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$
rm -f <windows iso>

Next Step

Complete the installation with Install Veeam Backup & Replication.
