Add Disks to a Node

This procedure allows you to add new disks to a node in the ARTESCA storage services. To proceed with this expansion, you must have platform administrator rights.

Considerations

When adding data disks to a node:

  • For defective disk replacement, use a disk with a similar capacity (20% margin).

  • For capacity expansion, any disk capacity may be used, except in low-density configurations where the initial data disks were 16 TB or smaller.

  • The number of disks you can add depends on how full the server capacity is:

    • If the server capacity is >80% full, you must add at least 12 disks per server.

    • If the server capacity is <80% full, you can add disks one by one.

  • Ensure you have a valid license covering the additional storage capacity. Refer to Manage ARTESCA Licenses for more information.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the new disks are physically installed in the server.

  2. Ensure that your disk is properly prepared. Refer to Data Disks preparation for more information.

  3. On the ARTESCA UI, go to the Storage Services menu and click the node where you added the new disks.

  4. The system automatically detects new disks.

    Click Mount x new Disks.

    Tip

For detailed information about a disk, click View to display the detailed information view.

  5. The Mount new Disks form opens. It is a three step form.

    1. The first step is Detect available Disks. It provides information about the new disks such as the disk names and their capacity.

      Note

As the disk naming is based on the Linux path, the displayed name can change if the node is restarted, for example during a disk replacement.

      Click Confirm.

    2. The second step is Mount Disks. It automatically provisions Kubernetes volumes and attaches the new disks to the storage services.

      Click Continue.

    3. The third step is Summary. It displays a summary of the added disks.

      Important

The displayed disk capacities will slightly differ from the ones displayed in the list of all mounted data disks.

      Click Exit.

The ARTESCA storage services are reconfigured with the new disks. On the UI, the new disks are displayed with a healthy status.
