Install the Veeam Software Appliance

Download the Veeam Software Appliance ISO

From the official Veeam website, download the Veeam Software Appliance ISO file in the /home/artesca-os/ directory.

Create the Veeam Software Appliance Virtual Machine

  1. Deploy the VSA Virtual Machine.

    [artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$

    sudo ./artesca-installer vm create --vm-ip <vm ip> --os-iso <veeam iso> veeam vsa

The command creates the VSA Virtual Machine and deploys the following configurations:

    • Installs the Virtio Network driver.

    • Installs Veeam Backup & Replication 13.

    • Creates default admin credentials (veeamadmin, veeamso).

    • Updates the hosts file to resolve the s3.artesca-plus.local endpoint.

    • Installs the ARTESCA Root CA.

    • Configures the NTP endpoint.

    Note

This procedure takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Once the command is executed, a password for the veeamadmin user and a recovery key for the veeamso user will display. Make sure to save these credentials, as you will need them to connect to the Veeam web UI in the next step.

    Credentials Example
VM on node is deployed, you can log into the VBR WebUI at https://10.0.1.5:443
using username veeamadmin and password: S{J*Q`sm_N:W!2\
To log in as the veeam security officer, you can go to the Host Management WebUI at
https://10.0.1.5:10443 and use this token f8561f1e-3c63-4ce5-b0b1-fb0947a00c65 to reset its password

  2. Configure Veeam Access Credentials.

Open the VSA Host Management Web UI and configure the Veeam security officer credentials using the recovery key provided in the previous step. Refer to this procedure for more information on how to reset the veeamso credentials.

Scality recommends resetting the veeamadmin user password following the Changing Own Password procedure.

  3. Delete the installation artifacts.

    [artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$

    rm -f <veeam iso>

  4. Connect to the Veeam instance’s web UI as a veeamadmin and deploy the Veeam license. Refer to the Veeam license installation documentation for the complete procedure.

Note

The VSA HA Cluster requires 3 or 6 nodes ARTESCA cluster.

  1. Deploy the 2 VSA Virtual Machines.

    [artesca-os@bootstrap ~]$

    sudo ./artesca-installer vm create --high-availability --vm-ip <vm 1 ip> --vm-ip <vm 2 ip> --os-iso <veeam iso> veeam vsa

  4. Connect to each Veeam instance’s web UI as a veeamadmin and deploy the Veeam license. Refer to the Veeam license installation documentation for the complete procedure.

  5. Configure the Veeam HA cluster.

Log in to the Windows-based Veeam Backup & Replication console and configure the High Availability cluster using the two IP addresses assigned to the Veeam Virtual Machines. During this process, set up a new Virtual IP that will serve as the shared endpoint for the cluster.

Refer to the Veeam Backup & Replication High Availability documentation for the complete configuration procedure.

  6. Update the Veeam API IP in the ARTESCA UI.

Once the HA cluster is configured and the Virtual IP is established, update the Veeam API IP using the following URL: https://<management ui url>:8443/about/update-veeam-credentials.

    Example
    https://10.0.1.5:8443/about/update-veeam-credentials
